Clinical Psychology PhD San Francisco
A SCHOLAR-PRACTITIONER MODEL
The APA-accredited* CSPP Clinical Psychology PhD program at the San Francisco campus of Alliant International University follows a scholar- practitioner model, with two equally important goals:
- To develop the knowledge, skills and professional attitudes to evaluate psychological functioning and provide effective interventions with diverse clients across a range of settings
- To educate students to conduct applied research and to contribute actively to the
knowledge base in psychology.
A CURRICULUM INFUSED WITH DIVERSITY
Our goal of providing effective, relevant services to diverse populations is supported
by courses focusing on diverse populations and clinical training experiences that
offer exposure to a range of populations.
RESEARCH SEMINARS: A SPECIAL SAN FRANCISCO FEATURE
All students enroll in a research seminar during their first year and continue for
at least four years, or until they complete a dissertation proposal. This intimate,
small-group setting, with groups comprised of students in all years of the program,
gives students a chance to work with faculty members on areas of shared interest and
faculty expertise.
IF YOU NEED MORE TIME. . .
The standard PhD curriculum runs for five years and is designed to allow completion of the dissertation before beginning a full-time internship in the fifth year. However, students may extend their time to take additional courses, complete research work, or spread their internship over two years.
CAREER PATHS
An exciting range of career paths is open to Clinical PhDs, including:
- Clinical and forensic practice
- Applied research
- Teaching
- Consulting
- Administration
