RON TRAVENICK, Ed.D.
Ron Travenick, Associate Vice President of Student Services at Ohlone Community College, received his Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Management from the Hufstedler School of Education in 2009 - a degree he then used to advance his career in community college leadership. Ron attended classes right on the Ohlone campus as part of a cohort of 12 colleagues in a program that was a product of the partnership between Ohlone and Alliant.
Ron cites his education at the Hufstedler School of Education as providing the practical knowledge and creative ideas to solve problems—such as diversity, enrollment and changing student needs—that he faces on a daily basis working at Ohlone. He and his classmates even created new programs while they are earning their degrees, including one that would allow students who have received their A.A. degrees to complete a B.A. in International Relations.
Ron was able to integrate his job with school by using a project that he was doing for work as the focus of his paper instead of creating a whole new topic. He found that applying what he was doing to his school project increased the depth of his understanding for both work and school. He feels confident that the investment in education will help him to serve students more effectively and meet the challenges of the increasingly complex educational system.
