Is San Francisco Law School Accredited?
Yes, San Francisco Law School has been continuously accredited by the State Bar of California, since in 1937 – when accreditation was started.
Additionally, as one of the schools of Alliant International University by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and has approval from the United States Department of Education (DOE) to offer financial assistance to qualified students.
Is San Francisco Law School approved by the American Bar Association (ABA )?
No, and it is unlikely that San Francisco Law School would seek approval in the near
future since one of our historic goals is to keep legal education affordable for opportunity
students.
What is the tuition at San Francisco Law School?
The tuition at San Francisco Law School is $800/unit. The general fees are $200 per
student, and the computer exam fees are $25 dollars a semester. As you can see, the
tuition at San Francisco Law School is about one half or less than the tuitions of
other law schools in our area.
Is financial assistance available?
Yes. Since the program at San Francisco Law School has been approved by the United
States Department of Education, the students are entitled to apply for federal assistance.
Because the tuition at San Francisco Law School is so reasonable, and it is a part
time program, students are encouraged to borrow only what they truly need, in order
to leave law school with as little debt as possible.
Does San Francisco Law School have a full time program?
Yes. San Francisco Law School has received approval to expand its programs to include
a full time program - which is expected to start in the Fall 2012. There will be both
day and evening classes which will provide greater educational flexibility. The number
of additional classes and sections are dependent on enrollment, similar to electives.
How many nights a week do students attend law school in the part time evening program?
Part time evening students at San Francisco Law School take 10 units a semester by
attending classes Mondays through Thursdays, from 6:20 p.m. to either 8:10 or 9:10
p.m., depending on whether the class that evening is two units or three. The Academic
Support program meets on Saturday mornings and is open to all students.
Do the students attend law school in the summer semester?
Yes. San Francisco Law School uses the summer semesters to work on Bar Skills for
its First and Third Year students and for Moot Court classes for its Second Year students.
Do the students get vacation time?
Yes. Students get approximately 2 weeks at the end of the Spring semester and two
weeks before the beginning of the Fall semester. (Often, this will be 2 weeks in mid
May and the first 2 weeks of August.)
Does San Francisco Law School have any on-line courses?
Yes. In the Fall 2011, San Francisco Law School initiated its first asynchronous on-line
course, Professional Responsibiity. The Law School expects to offer additional courses
on-line in the future.
Do I need to graduate from college to apply to law school?
No. Students with an AA or AS may apply to law school. Additionally, students without
an AA may apply after taking three of the required CLEP examinations.
Does San Francisco Law School require an applicant to take the LSAT (Law School Admissions
Test)?
Yes, applicants must take the LSAT. Applicants can sign up for the LSAT. Applicants
may choose to have their information and documents sent to San Francisco Law School
by LSDAS (Law School Data Assembly Service) but it is not required.
